"In a digital age, and with rapid and continuing changes in the ways that people
share, use, develop and communicate with ICT, young people need to be highly
skilled in its use. To participate in a knowledge-based economy and to be
empowered within a technologically sophisticated society now and into the
future, students need the knowledge, skills and confidence to make ICT work for
them at school, at home, at work and in their communities" (ACARA, 2014).
Like learning to surf the untamed waters this stage is for those who have learned to stay balanced, keep their bearings and manipulate this new tool to adapt to new surroundings. The aim of Modification is to redesign a task to integrate new technological designs. Incorporating multi-media, web designs or app creations into a task can improve the outcome of a presentation and the understanding for both the creator and the audience. (Jude, Kajura and Birev. 2014) The modification stage (which shares the concept of transformation with Redefinition) is where many students feel engaged, create a positive attitude and discover an authentic purpose for learning. (Bloemsma, 2013 P66-71.) Majority of students would love more frequent use of technology and many wish their teachers were more fluent with the implementation of connected learning.(Bloemsma, 2013 P.xii.). Obviously school budgets can only stretch so far and not all teachers are comfortable using technology. Some teachers do not integrate technology at all, others stagnate having taught Substitution and Augmentation, but they must be challenged to extend their own knowledge in order to do the same for their students. Modification is where learning becomes fun, creative and purposeful. Teachers need only know a few resources at this level to implement active classrooms with engaged students. |

Windows and AppleThroughout history workplaces have employed various devices which traditionally perform one function. However in contemporary workplaces the introduction of multi-functioned devices have demanded an increase of knowledge and multi-skilling to enable the user to use the device to its full potential. Two of the world's major technology companies are Microsoft Windows and Apple (Hessman, 2013). Many schools adopt one, if not both of these software interfaces so both have been represented with various activities that can be used to Modification.
